flightless birdnow i’m a fat house cat. nursing my sore, blunt tongue. watching the warm poison rats crawl through the wide fence cracks. pissing on magazine photos. those fishing lures thrown in the cold and clean blood of christ mountain stream. Darkness seemed to surround a certain man as he stood in the darkened shadows near one of the abandoned houses. It seemed as if Midnight Harbour was just as dangerous as every other city he had lived in and a part of him wanted so badly to just pack up and leave. Get out of dodge before one or both slayers discovered his whereabouts. There was no denying that the dark haired and dark eyed man didn't fit. He was far too pale for most people and the fact that he was normally only found lurking in the shadows was a true indication of just what he was. Gabriel was only hiding for fear that someone might find him before he was ready to announce that he had arrived. After all the only appeal to this town was the fact that rumor had it two slayers were here and he wanted to see what they could do. Challenging one or both would more than likely mean the end of him, if these slayers were as good as they seemed to be. Otherwise it was just going to be amusing.
Dark eyes watched the two figures that he had been stalking. One was clearly a vampire, and a young one by the looks of it. The other well he wasn't quite sure yet. She smelled human but then again she had enough perfume on her to drown out the stench of a rotting corpse. So it was very possible that she herself could be a rotting corpse. If she was in fact human then she was the one that Gabriel would be trying to save in his deluded quest to make amends with the world. The other would be the victim of his rage at the moment. Gabriel was anything but stable, the inability to actually hunt humans like his kind should and the constant pain and reminders of everything he had done had worn a part of his sanity to its breaking point. That was why he had been following this couple for the last two hours. They were unaware of course that a master vampire like himself was out and about, he had made sure of this. Shadows hid him far to well, at least he chose to think that from time to time.
Slowly and as quietly as he could the vampire moved closer through the rows of houses and out to the quieter ones that were abandoned. It was the only place that a vampire could truly live and not have to worry about being invited in. Abandoned houses often didn't have clear owners which meant they could become permanent squatters if they so wished. He could hear the sounds of the leaves and sticks crunching under their feet as his two targets approached one of the larger houses. Sounds filled his ears, noises that could only be described as a party. Great things just got a whole lot more complicated. It was hard enough to keep track of the few vampires that liked to party in groups but this, this was a blood bath in the making. He hoped that the party wasn't being thrown by vampires, but humans instead simply so that the amount of living outweighed that of the dead. It was a long shot but he would do what he could do.
Leaping over the bushes that hid him from view the man landed on the roof. The thud was light but with the growing rumblings of thunder it could easily be mistaken. From here he could see the comings and goings and maybe find a way to get into the house. Walking right in the front door was too obvious and this was the way he could sneak it. Being a party crasher wasn't hard, at least he hoped in this case it would be. Already his senses were on overload at the crushing smell of humanity that seemed to be within the building alone. Alighting to the balcony and trying the window, Gabe was pleased to see that it was open. Slipping inside he stood for a moment and breathed. Smells ran through his mind and for a moment he wished he could be human, could enjoy the thrills of a good party. Instead he had to find the vampire he had been stalking and maybe more if they were brave enough to show up here as well. Moving from the room, Gabe went to go mingle with the humans. words enough, tag jamie, outfit, blah |

She was so - - - nice? Yeah, that could be the world. Jaime was to nice, that is the reason for this. To nice to not say no to going to some disgusting college party in an abandoned house North of Jaime's home. It was far, and she was designated drive for Britney. Britney was Jaime's first friend when she came to Midnight Harbor, and is very full on. Not so nice but more bitchy, tells it as it is and tough as nails. Do you remember the guy that facebook stalked Jaime? The Rupert dude? Yeah, after his failed attempt he went to Britney and Britney said yes. Stupid bitch, Jaime knew this so now they were at this party. It was a really, really bad scene though. The girls were sluts, prancing up on guys and the guys were either on drugs or as horny as a pack of imprisoned dogs. It was bad, and Jaime really wanted to leave. Not that she didn't like to party, but she liked to party with friends. Not strange people with no tans trying to get it in. It was definitely not her scene, and she really hoped she didn't blend in here because she felt like a complete outcast. She had denied a beer because the solo cups were probably lined with E. Who knows, they could be? Jaime's paranoia was on high, and at this point even being touched wouldn't be an option. With a cigarette in her hand, she barely even smoked it. She took like two drags and was letting the wind blow it away in her hand. Yeah, this wasn't good but as she looked over she saw Britney who was having a great time with two guys, making out with one as the other one touched her. She felt dirty just by seeing it.
Her attention was caught by the drunken freak next to her as a hand touched her thigh and she looked to his hand, and then to him. Truth be told, he was cute, but this was a gross place and whoever would like to hang out here is a gross person. Looking at him annoyed, she shook her hand. "Sorry buddy, married". She said and took a drag and then looked away. But his hand wasn't moving away, it was moving closer. She looked to his face and saw a drunken, laughing expression on his face as he looked at her and his hand was travelling towards her ass. Okay, no. She was out of here now. "Hey! No - touching!". She yelled at him and sent a punch straight into his nose. His hands went to his face as he held his nose, and got up and stumbled out of the room. Shaking her head, she kind of felt bad but she felt bad every time she hit someone. But she had to just think, she didn't want to be the victim. And no one touches the bikini department. The guys that were next to them were laughing that the guy got hit by a girl, and Jaime looked at them for a second before shaking her head and going to walk out. Moving out of the room, she went to enter the dark hall when the guy popped out behind her. Jaime couldn't scream when a dirty hand wrapped around her mouth from behind and she was dragged up stairs, but no one notice. Or maybe almost no one.
Getting to the top of the staircase, Jaime struggled against him. This guy was so strong! She didn't know what to do right now as she ripped at the hand over her mouth, but she couldn't break his grip. She heard his deep breathing, it was more like growling. Note to self; never ever EVER go to a rave at an abandoned house. Her heart was beating fast, she was starting to panic. But she just had to remember that she - she knew how to defend herself and she knew how to kick some ass. She could hear his sighing, but felt no breath as she felt his cool skin against her mouth. It was weird, too weird. So she improvised. Stomping down, the heal of her boot stomped down on his toe. He grunted as Jaime swung her head back, feeling the back of her head hit his nose. It sent a thud through her head, but she couldn't stop. She grabbed his arm and tossed it off from around her and turned to him. She couldn't see his face in the dark shadows, but knew that this wasn't the average joe on the streets. There was something wrong with him. But Jaime was not going to be the victim.
"Just stay - the hell - away". She breathed out as she tried to knock him down. She was no superman, but for a girl that trains every night she was no amateur. Shooting towards him, she tried to see what he was doing, but the darkness made it hard. Swinging a punch towards his face, she missed him as he dodged back, but didn't anticipate that she would swing her arm back and backhanded him across the face. It hit him, but it didn't even seem to hurt him. What the hell was this? Evading back in a small hop, she swung a hard kick up and at his face. She got him as it smashed over his face, and he stepped to the side slightly but - it wasn't hurting him as much as it would. Swinging another kick she kicked him in the chest as he staggered back maybe a step or two. She breathed kind of heavily. It seemed like he was letting her hit him. But why? Jaime then saw him approach, and felt a hard jab to her stomach. She gasped as she was winded, and then a punch across her face. She swung to the side slightly, looking up at him through her hair as he backhanded her across the face. She fell to her knees side on, breathing heavily. She felt blood coming down her eyebrow as she went to get up, groaning and then felt a kick into the side of her back as Jaime was launched across the room, hitting the wall and falling back down to the ground. She was going to be made a victim. She was not going to be made a victim. She was not.......

flightless birdnow i’m a fat house cat. nursing my sore, blunt tongue. watching the warm poison rats crawl through the wide fence cracks. pissing on magazine photos. those fishing lures thrown in the cold and clean blood of christ mountain stream. Complications always seemed to arise at the least wanted time. That much Gabe could attest too as he walked through the halls in this house. The sheer crush of the bodies, the swell of humanity was enough to almost make him double over in pain. Every human life he had ever taken, every torturous act that he had inflicted was coming back to him and if he had a need to breathe he was more than sure he would be gasping for breath. There was a reason that Gabe tried to avoid parties, at least ones with so many unsuspecting humans. They were too tempting, too alive. He was trying to fight his desire to just rip out all their throats and bathe in blood, a desire that he had only been able to shake due to the application of the curse he was under. Life as it used to be was giving way to the life that he had now, this need to atone and hunt his own kind. Rather than linger in the darkness of the hallway, the man needed to move and move he did. His gait was quick and even, but silent. He looked like a big jungle cat on the prowl.
Passing from room to room as if he was trying to mingle, Gabe tried to look as f he fit in. It didn't always work so well. When you were large and imposing like he was it didn't make it easy to fit in. Rather he was sure that a few people noticed him, and when they did he tried to shoo them off. Gabriel had never been one to mingle, one to stand there and idly chat the day away. He much preferred the darkness since it lent to that air of mystery to him. Leaning against one of the walls on the downstairs of the house, Gabriel could see the people that came and went. Alcohol and vomit permeated the air around him and it made him want to gag. Humans had no idea what they were missing, what they were giving up every time they went to a crappy party like this. The longer he stood there the more Gabriel was sure that his target would make a move. After all there were too many juicy human targets here for them to snack on. If a few people ended up corpses no one would be the wiser.
While it was impossible for Gabe to memorize the features of every single human in the party there were a few that stood out more than the others. One girls in particular was enough to make him do a double take. She looked familiar, as if he had met her before but then he had met so many people on the four hundred years of his life. One moment bled into another as Gabriel tried to monitor everything that was going on throughout the house. Myriads of sounds caught his ears and for a while he was able to zone them out. None of them were the signals he needed to divert his attention away from stalking the humans and watching them. Already the vampire could feel a headache coming on, the pressure of the crush of humanity grating on his last nerve. It was enough that he was literally about ten seconds from bolting and just letting the vampires have their meal. That was until another sound registered in his ears.
Fighting wasn't the sound that he had expected to come from the room not to far away. At parties like this there were bound to be a few scuffles but this was something so different. He needed to get to the source of the sound and not draw any attention to himself. Without a thought, Gabriel sunk himself further into the shadows and moved as quickly as he dared. People could be oblivious when they chose to be and very aware when someone didn't want them too. Having his identity revealed was not the path that Gabriel chose to take, so he was as quiet as he could be walking through a house that he didn't own nor know very well. The sounds of a fight grew louder and he knew he was close enough that he could stop it. Peering into the room he could hear the woman's voice as if she was standing next to him. This was going to be a bit of a challenge. Protecting her from the vampire could reveal what he was, if he wasn't careful.
It didn't take long for the vampire to launch the woman across the room and that was exactly when he made his move. Using his own body weight against the man, Gabriel was sure the vampire didn't even see him coming as their two bodies crashed together. The sound was loud and it was one of those sounds that made people cringe because they were sure something was broken. As the older vampire he quickly regained the upper hand and it made him feel alive for a bit. He could fight his own kind and save the humans, but then he was saddened by the fact that he had to protect a group that would never understand what it was to be like him. With a flick of his right hand, the stake hidden up his sleeve launched out and Gabriel was able quickly dispatch the vampire. That was the easy part, the hard part was just about to come. He needed to make sure the woman was going to be alright and if needed to get them both out of the house before anyone noticed.
Shoving the stake back up his sleeve and sighing softly, Gabriel moved himself so that he was near her. Squatting down so that he could get a better assessment of the state that she was in he couldn't help but reach out and touch her. In some ways it was to assure himself that he wasn't too late; that she was in fact breathing. She was still warm which was a good sign but he needed her to respond if he was going to tell whether she would be alright or not. "Miss. Miss, can you hear me? I need you to respond." He was trying to resist the urge to scoop her into his arms and just get out of there. He could dump her at a hospital and let them tend to her wounds but that would be dangerous. There were still vampires in the house and he needed to eliminate as many of them as possible. Gabe knew he couldn't leave this woman in the state she was in just so he could finish his hunt. It was that darn pesky conscience of his. words enough, tag jamie, outfit, blah |

Hmm, what a nice taste! Bitter blood swirling around her mouth, it was great. A soft groan came from her as she twitched, he hand reaching and touching her ribs. Oh god, they killed. What the hell was that that hit her? She felt like the Hulk gave her a drop-kick to her ribs, and touching them softly she winced in pain. But she heard something, like something shootingg across the floor. Turning quickly, she heard a bang as a shadowy figure hit the guy. Jaime looked away, it was like a giant crack. A snap, that was unbelievable. She looked down, and then heard a struggle, and then a cry. A cry, that she had never heard before. Touching her forehead, she felt blood. Okay, five rounds with different opponents would lead to this, but right now, she was dumbfounded. Looking at her hand, she then saw the blood and rested her head against it. She was hurt, and she scuffeled her leg slightly. She was scared more than anything now. She didn't want to look at the shadows, she was scared if he would come back out.
So she laid, and hoped he wouldn't come for her. But then, as she laid with her eyes closed, she felt something. Fingertips touching her arm. It was gentle, and delicate, and cold. A cold strong hand, and it made her feel - not scared. The hand that touched her remained, and she reached her own hand over and touched his fingers. His hand, entirely, was cold. But she felt safe right now. "Your cold, like ice". She said as her fingers ran over his hand, and she looked up at him. She saw his shadowed features, chiseled and strong as she looked up at him, the moonlight shining through a window and at him. "Is he gone?". She asked. Reaching up, she gripped onto a nailed-up board and used it to pull herself up. Groaning, she got to her feet. Staggering slightly, her arm curled over and held her ribs as she looked at him, breathing heavily. Who knew that tall, dark and handsome guys aren't only in cliched action movies?
"Thanks for the save there, that was - weird. I'm Jaime by the way". She sighed, touching her ribs but then looked to the doorway behind the guy. There, one after another four others guys walked in. One had a baseball bat, another had a dirty old machette, and the others had fister-cuffs. As she looked at them, she really wanted the guy to touch her again because she was feeling sooo not safe right now! Her heart started pounding, her breathing getting heavy. Okay, no more kid stuff. If she was going to fight, then she was actually going to fight this time. No more dojo stuff, this was real. "Okay, I guess the fighting isn't over". Looking at the one with the bat, he seemed a bit to big for his boots. Maybe she could use that. Charging forwards, she jumped. She had never done this, so hopefully it would be okay. Leaping, she swung her legs up and double-booted the vamp in the chest. Hitting him, he groaned as he smashed into the wall. Jaime shot back slightly, her back hitting the floor as she performed a backwards roll to her feet. Okay, ribs are hurting right now as she looked at the other vamp. Two each, seemed fair. But, wait what was wrong with his face? She swung a punch, punching him across the face as hard as she could as he staggered backwards slightly, and she swept out his feet. Finally, she dropped one as its landed flat on its back. Things were - well, kinda looking up.

flightless birdnow i’m a fat house cat. nursing my sore, blunt tongue. watching the warm poison rats crawl through the wide fence cracks. pissing on magazine photos. those fishing lures thrown in the cold and clean blood of christ mountain stream. Jumping into the fray when someone was in danger wasn't exactly something that Gabriel fought against; at least when he could help it. Right now he was wishing in a way that he hadn't jumped into the fray to save the woman. Not because she had annoyed him but because it was hard to hide his secret identity when he was in the height of a fight. Being a vampire and trying to hide it from the humans that you just saved from others of your kind was not easy. There had been plenty of times when the man had gone that extra mile and killed the vampire only to turn around with his true nature still showing and watching as the human ran away in fear. Maybe it was because he had fought that so hard that was annoying him. He had staked the vampire that had attacked the woman, that problem solved now the tougher part was coming. In his mind he was at a loss on how to spare her the knowledge that the supernatural actually existed, especially since had no idea how to gauge her reaction.
Trying to ignore the comment she made about his his lack of body temperature, Gabriel assessed the woman. He needed to make sure that she was going to live, he couldn't risk trying to carry out a dead body with this many people around. That kind of attention was not what he wanted at all. Dark eyes watched as she pulled herself up from the ground and bent over. "Yes hes gone and you need to be careful. If you push yourself too much you can do some serious damage. At least take it easy till you can get out of this room and get looked at by a doctor." The words were kind but firm, and full of an emotion that was hard to identify. In a way he admired her spunk, the fact that she wasn't going to just sit there and take it. Admirable but stupid at the same time. Then again he forgot just how hard it was to convince some humans that they truly were breakable. In their minds they were superheroes at times.
Introductions seemed to be the next thing on the list but did he give her his real name? It wasn't like he expected to run into her again. "Nice to meet you Jaime. I'm Gabriel." He could kick himself later for what he was about to do but he placed a hand gently on her shoulder as if to try to steady her some. Of course the good times were soon over and Gabriel wasn't surprised really. Where there was one vampire there tended to be others, he had simply lost track of them in his desire to help the innocent. Four, that wasn't really much of a challenge but then again, he had a human that he had to keep safe as well. He was wasting precious moments trying to make a plan when Jamie darted out and attacked two of them. How she was able to move like that given her condition he wasn't sure but he would deal with it later. She needed to be taken out of the fight before it truly was too late to save her. Moving to her location the vampire sighed as he looked down at her.
"I'll handle these guys. You keep that up and you will hurt yourself worse. I can get you to the window, there's a balcony and a fire escape. They won't follow you out if you go. I'll come get you when I'm done." Of course he was offering her the chance to say no but that didn't mean he'd like it. Moving to stand in front of the woman, Gabriel stood tall and strong. He needed to show the vampires that he wasn't afraid of them. Two of them seemed to recognize him or at least understand that he was far more powerful than they were but that didn't stop them from wanting to reach their goal. He needed to fight this out and dispatch them quickly but having an audience wasn't the goal. Gabe hoped that Jamie would take him up on his offer and let him get her to the window at least. She would be out of their grip seeing as he didn't plan on letting the four vampire get very far. Oh the fight was going to be fun, and it was going to be worth it. words enough, tag jamie, outfit, blah |

Gabriel, nice name. She was going to say 'cute' but then again, that phrase has never done her justice lately. It was an old fashioned name to her, like Emanuel or Sebastian. Reminded her of some old Britt movie with some posh blokes sitting around sipping wine. It worked for him, he was redefining her mentality of Gabriel as some snot-nosed suit to - a kick ass man in shining armor. But a little less adorable then it sounds because Jaime was looking like crap at the moment. The vampire she had kicked had moved from the wall, moving towards her as a hard fist swung down on her. She couldn't block it, she wasn't that fast. But a closed fist bashed down on the back of her neck as she grunted and dropped to the ground. Landing on her front with a thud, she gasped in pain. She had landed on her ribs, and felt tears welling as she looked at his feet moving towards her. With a last ditched effort, she swung a foot along the floor and swept out his feet, and this dude fell on his ass as Jaime took Gabriel's advice as she stood back up. This was to hot for her to handle alright, and when the guys started to get up she took that as her cue. "Okay, okay. Be careful". She told him as she inched away and then ran for the window. She could hear hard footsteps hitting behind her as she got to the window.
Turning towards them, she screamed like a little bitch but putting out a foot, the guy's foot hit it as he flew with his own speed and smashed across the ground. Strike one for her as she gripped onto the window frame. It wasn't exactly sturdy, what could you expect. But sticking a leg out she climbed her way out. The wind was cool, touching the blood running down her forehead as she gripped onto the ceil and then climbed out of the window. Hearing the punches hit sounded painful. She couldn't leave him, she had to help. He was in this mess because of her, but she was basically already done and dusted. She looked at the fire-escape and reached for it. Damn it shot arms! Grunting, she reached for one of the rails when the window ceil did the worst thing - it gave way. Wood broke between her fingers as she fell back, screaming as she felt. It was a one-story fall for Ms Stone as she screamed for dear life as she landed bellow. And she landed on a pile of trash that scummy losers neglect to put in the garbage truck. Sliding down it, she felt the points of rubbish and the russtle of plastic as she stopped. Her back was throbbing, her ribs damaged as she tried to drag herself across the ground. Turning onto her side, she looked up at the house. She hoped he would be al right.
