As usual the first day of school was a big ball of stress for Marina. She had her class schedule but no clue how she was going to get from point A to point B in the time that it said. She was just going to try and take it slow. If they rushed her they would find that she wasn't going to yield but so far. That was the problem with being emancipated at sixteen. Everyone thought you were a freak. You had no parents so you had to have done something to make them not want you. So far she'd heard that she had buried them in the basement, fed them to the students in the cafeteria, or that she was part of the witness protection program cause her parents were drug king pins. As if the daughter of one of those would be making lattes for frumpy businessmen. After seeing the waistlines of a few middle aged folks she'd sworn off coffee altogether. Besides, the smell seemed to permiate everything and now sickened her. She didn't reek of it thank god but still...
Limping along she caught a few stares, her hair was in this cute cut that framed her face nicely and she was looking sophisticated as she could in her braces, leggings, sweater dress and outerwear. She even had a beige cane with a rose on it to make a statement. It had been packed with her things and although she didn't quite remember it, it had the look of something her dad had meant to give her and had stored away. She'd finally had him send her her stuff, what little there was left of it. She'd found a studio apartment that was fully furnished but it wasn't like she was going to have anyone over so it worked. She'd somehow been notified that she was the recipiant of an imac when she'd submitted an essay off the cuff a year ago to the apple program. With that she had gotten a tablet for notes and the desktop.
As she moved along she saw some jocks blocking her way. Trying to slide past them she paused and looked up, "Excuse me, please?" she asked quietly.
"Look at the new girl. Hey Ocean what's the best tuna huh?" one of them leaned on the wall and stood directly in front of her. He grinned down at her.
She resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Lame. "I wouldn't know. But you seem to have an interest so why don't you google it in between catching a football? [/color]" she said with a raised eyebrow. " Oooo. She's got spirit." He looked back at one of his friends and they jerked her cane out of her hands and she stumbled into the jock who caught her, gripping her shoulders, " Well hey now. I've heard of falling for me but this takes the cake." She felt them circle around her, one guy putting her cane behind his neck while he rested both arms on it and smirked. " Hey new girl. You know what the welcoming committee is?" he asked as she looked up at him. Raising an eyebrow and trying hard not to let things get to her. " I wouldn't know. Does it involve you groveling before me cause that would be kinda cool. I mean ya know you're trying really hard to get a date here but I can always use the ego boost of the football team making a spectacle of themselves with the new girl. I mean really three of you to take on one of me? That's just kinda flattering to know I've got a line forming and its only the first day." [/blockquote]

Letting out a breath, she looked down at the others in the stage. The gay kid that flaunts his stuff, even though people don't really understand him. The punk chick who rights gothic poetry and cuts herself on occasion. The jock who likes to sing but cares to much about what people think. The blonde bimbo, the too-cool-for-school guy, the gym-junky, biker chick, Indian guy and Jaime; random chick. These stereotypes are launched around the school, more particularly in the Glee club. They aren't exactly at the bottom of the social ladder, but they aren't exactly the most respected. They just do there own thing, and they at least respected themselves. It was a place that it didn't really matter who you are, where you come from or anything like that, only that you sang from the heart. With Mixy (punk chick) and Stacy (blonde bimbo alert) standing behind her as the band started. It was time for Jaime to flaunt one of the most popular hits of the season, and stepping up to the mic she smiled slightly as she picked it up from the stand, waiting to come in.
White knuckles and sweaty palms from hanging on too tight Clenched shut jaw, I've got another headache again tonight Eyes on fire, eyes on fire, and they burn from all the tears I've been crying, I've been crying, I've been dying over you Tie a knot in the rope, tryin' to hold, tryin' to hold, But there's nothing to grasp so I let go".
With build-up, Jaime let loose into the chorus. Unless on stage, she never really did this. Not even in the shower, and as she jumped around on stage with the other girls with this party-themed song, she thought. Wow, her life is really shit! Well recently. Between having to play vigilante with Jack Frost a few weeks ago, getting beat up and running into a passed flame, not to mention just getting back into school after her five days suspension to hell, she didn't really know what to do with all of this. The cold creeps she fought, the way she could tell things about people in the way that she could. It had to mean something right? But what? Right now it didn't matter as she went nuts with this song.
I think I've finally had enough, I think I maybe think too much I think this might be it for us (blow me one last kiss) You think I'm just too serious, I think you're full of shit My head is spinning so (blow me one last kiss)
Just when it can't get worse, I've had a shit day (NO!) Have you had a shit day? (NO!), we've had a shit day (NO!) I think that life's too short for this, I want back my ignorance and bliss I think I've had enough of this, blow me one last kiss.
I will do what I please, anything that I want I will breathe, I will breathe, I won't worry at all You will pay for your sins, you'll be sorry my dear All the lies, all the why's, will all be crystal clear
Na na na na - da da da da Na na na na - da da da da Na na na na - da da da da
Blow me one last kiss.
Na na na na - da da da da Na na na na - da da da da Na na na na - da da da da Blow me one last kiss."
With her coat on. Jaime walked out of the auditorium and down the hall. Okay, that was a cool session. It had been a while since she had been assigned something, and she loved it. The others didn't mind it either, and Mixy and Stacy were - well - good. She wasn't cool about them too much, but she didn't hate. Well, she hated but only sometimes. With her bag on the shoulder, it was time to go home. Cordelia's rules right now, home after school every day for a month. No going out, and no - well, fun. Jaime saw it as reasonable, she wasn't that big of a bitch. She had done wrong, and even though she hates rules and being held down by someone elses authority, she was roling with it. Sometimes she could be the good daughter, or niece, but it was a rare occasion. Anyone who knew Jaime would know that. Moving down the hall, she pulled out her phone to check for messages. Three of them; one from Britney asking about a party this weekend, one from Jayden asking about a her day and what it is like 'not' being a school convict, and one from - Ayden. Reading it, she smiled to herself. She didn't hate him, or blame him from what happened. Let's just say she likes to take care of the people she cares about, and was just thriving to put Joey jack-ass in his place.
But when she looked up, she saw it. Something that really, really pissed her off. It was high school, and in high school you get the bullies. They were either low-lifes that had no future and enjoyed hurting people, or jocks with severe superiority complexes. Looking at them, she frowned. If someone is disabled, it isn't like they chose it. Like they want to have the hardship, it is just shitty luck. Something that shouldn't be judged, but these tiny-pricked bastards were really, really asking for it. She couldn't get in another fight because she was smarter then that. But intimidation; she just couldn't wait. Moving forwards, she saw one of them with the girl's cane behind his neck, loving the moment terrorizing the teen as Jaime walked up. She had to admit, this girl wasn't helpless. With that amount of spunk, she could be body-slammin' these suckas. But Jaime might as well leave that up to her. Moving forwards, she sent a stomp into the back of the jocks knee. It wouldn't hurt him, but it would force his knew to fold and for him to loose balance. She wasn't that crazy! As he lost balance, she gripped onto the cane and swung him, forcing him to loose his grip and pushing him into the lockers behind them. With the cane, all eyes fell onto her. Joey aside, she really didn't believe that these jocks would actually hit a girl, but to be sure Jaime took it by the handle and swung it above her head like a propeller. The guys stepped back as she looked around at them. "First of all, get a life. Really, if picking on people less capable then you is how modern jocks get there kicks then I am really sorry for you. Second of all, you all heard about Joey and don't think suspension scares me. And third of all; guys, I have a fucking stick, probably leave now". She said sarcastically as they gave their dirty looks, middle fingers and shrugged the situation off and walked away. Jaime still had a bit of bruising and a small cut on her eyebrow, but at least she didn't look like a car crash victim anymore. Turning to the girl, she handed her the cane. "New girl right? Let me introduce you to a more rockin' welcoming then lettermen's jacket's with tools inside. I'm Jaime, and welcome to Midnight Harbor High". She gave her a smile, and looked to the girl.

Glancing over Marina watched the guy crumble to the floor as his knee gave and Jaime picked up her walking stick and twirled it around for effect. Ok so that was pretty bad ass Mari had to admit as she watched the girl rip into the jocks way better than she could. Feeling the guy let her go she gripped the side of the locker to keep her balance with her bookbag and tried to look casual while doing it. Fat chance of that but you never knew with things going the way they did these days. She decided not to get butt hurt about anything because really when you don't have parents who was really gonna arbitrate for you? It wasn't like she had anything really to look forward too beyond the next few years anyway, at least not with Damien in the picture. She'd still bust her ass but really how much good was it gonna do her?
She took her can back gently when Jaime presented it to her and she smiled softly, "Yeah that would be me. My name's Marina. Pleased to meet you, Jaime. Thanks for getting those guys to back off. It just makes things easier for me to not end up in detention on the first day for kneeing a guy ya know?" she smiled softly and looked around her a bit. It was luck that she managed to stumble into her own locker so she decided to lighten her load while she was here, "So, are you like the resident bad ass here cause that was pretty cool." she asked as she looked at the other woman with a sideways glance as she opened her locker. Peeking inside she saw a red rose with a note attatched to it. What the heck? "Wow, you guys really are welcoming...a rose?" she asked as she exchanged it for the books for her class and then scanned the inside of the locker out of curiosity. She'd not had time to decorate it but it looked like someone had. It had colored ribbon cork board for pictures and there were a few of her here there and out and about. The problem was that she had been on her own and had not asked for photos to be taken of her.
Looking puzzled she looked to the note and held a finger up, "Excuse me a moment while I find out who wrote this." she said gently as she looked down at the letter. It had a wax seal like they did back in the Middle Ages. Breaking the red bit of wax she unrolled the letter.
Greetings Marina,
I hope this letter finds you well and relatively unharmed. High School can be such a pain but it is so worth it for our intellectual development don't you think? I think you will find Midnight Harbor High to your liking and excel here as only you can. I took the liberty of signing you up for Glee club. You will be attending your first class tomorrow. Don't disappoint me. I know you sing well and I expect good grades. I also took a few other liberties because I'm like that and you really have no choice. You'll find better furniture at home and that I do keep close watch on your comings and goings at school. Its so easy to manipulate people into helping me after all. You just never know who can drop things off for you. It makes it so much easier.
I trust you won't be so busy you forget about me. Oh did you like the cane? I figured the red rose on it would remind you that I was thinking of you. Stay safe and do well in school. I shall be very displeased if you don't.
Forever Yours,
Damien
She blanched and gripped the letter tightly before blindly shoving it in her bag along with the rose, "Crap. I'm gonna be late for class. Thanks for helping me, Jaime. I totally missed glee club today so I'm gonna have to make that up sometime." she said softly with a tremble in her voice as her skin slowly regained its natural color.
