Arianna anxiously walked through the already open double doors of Midnight Harbour gymnasium where she was met with the diligent chants of many of her fellow female students as they practiced either in small groups or on their own for the cheerleading tryouts which were said to start at noon on this particular Saturday. She had been a bit early which was actually unlike her, but she had wanted to see what she would have to bring to the table today by observing her competition. Arianna wasn’t normally competitive, but she wanted more than anything to be put on the Midnight Harbour cheerleading squad and be a main player. There were many reasons behind her determination, but the one that kept swarming her mind was the importance of being just a normal girl in a normal school fighting for good grades and social acceptance. Fighting vampires? Definitely not in that description. It had actually surprised her how oblivious the students had been. It had only been a few days since the attack on Till Midnight Comes, and she was not expecting the excuses the student body would come up with to settle their disbelief. Gangs? Part of the Halloween experience? Were these people crazy? No, she understood. People would believe anything but the truth to help make them feel safe. It was how things like this went. For the majority of the time it happened with things that couldn’t be explained properly.
If anything she herself was surprised they were even going through this tryouts event. A girl had died mysteriously and instead of wondering how on earth she could have died (because it wasn’t a vampire, Ari had already checked) they were already looking for a replacement, someone better than the runner ups they had last year apparently. But there wasn’t just one slot open, there were a few. Just in case another one dies? Arianna thought. It was all a bit weird if you asked Ari. The report had said that the young cheerleader had died of shock, but honestly, who died of shock in a high school locker room? What? Did she see a killer spider crawling out of the shower head? Arianna winced. Yeah that would probably scare her a bit too actually. But as she looked around, the girls didn’t seem to at all be gossiping about their murdered fellow student. They were too busy last minute practicing. Had this kind of stuff happened a lot in Midnight Harbour? She wouldn’t put it past the town. After all, apparently it was already infested with vampires.
All too quickly, a whistle over by the bleachers sounded. She cleared her throat and headed over to gather with the others around a few girls who seemed to be discussing the tryouts and how they were going to work. If she could get that female vampire she had met on Halloween night and this murdered student out of her head, all she’d need is some extra luck to become a Harbour….well she still wasn’t exactly sure what the team was called, but no doubt she’d bring it enough to be one of them. She did feel a bit uncomfortable though that she was trying out for the part of the girl that had died just a night before. I’m just as bad as the rest of them! She thought to herself as she tried to listen to the head cheerleader speak.

jayden walked through the doors into the gymnasium. she was only here for a class project. she was taking some college courses already and one of them was psychology. she was doing a project on how groups of people interact and accept people into them. this was the perfect opportunity because the cheerleaders were a big, close knit group of popular girls. jayden couldn't imagine that they would take just anyone into their group. the girl would have to meet a certain look and personality. a look and personality that was completely different than what jayden possessed. she wasn't here to try out though, just to observe. she pulled out her notebook once she was sat down in the bleachers and a pen as well. she was going to take notes on the different interactions that she saw going on.
already she noticed that the girls were practicing either in little groups or alone. the girls that were alone didn't seem like complete cheerleading material really. the groups of girls all sort of looked the same. tanned skin, blonde hair, bright smiles and perky personalities. it was hard to believe that midnight harbour citizens could so easily block things from their minds. not to long ago there had been a nightmare at the night club during a halloween party and just last night a cheerleader had died. people had a great capacity for ignoring the things that might hurt them emotionally and mentally.
jayden sighed and just watched from her perch in the bleachers. she had a purple cast on her right arm, a healing bruise on her cheek, and a bandaid on her neck. the bandaid on her neck was covering two small holes that had been placed into her by a person. well not even really a person. she wasn't sure what had done it. that was a lie though, she knew what it was. it was a vampire, but her mind just couldn't believe that right now. she didn't remember too much after she had been bitten. she knew that someone had taken her to the hospital and she had received a blood transfusion. all she had were two little marks to remind her of that night.
jayden pulled herself back to reality and watched as the girls all gathered in to listen to what the current head cheerleader had to say.

Well it was that day, try-out all over again. Audrey didn’t really want to deal with this again, but she didn’t have a choice. Madeline died of shock they said, of shock? Like really, who would die of shock when you are an energetically filled cheerleader. Sounds a bit crazy if you asked Audrey but oh well what can she do? The headmistress ordered her to fill in the spot as well as an alternate, and that she shall do. Audrey walked through the halls, like she owned the school as usual, everyone stared when she walked, and she don’t blame them, she looked great and was probably the most popular girl in the whole school. She was sure Macy was already there scouting the place for potential cheerleaders. Audrey walked through the doors as she could see a whole large group of girls, many blonds, some burnets, no red heads, of course not, Audrey was going to be one of a kind forever.
Audrey walked towards the bleachers as she noticed Jayden sitting there, though, she seemed a bit banged up and to busy digging in her bag for her notebook it seemed. To avoid anymore Jayden-Macy sharing of words, Audrey thought it was best she just didn’t interact much with Jayden with Macy around. Audrey made her way towards the bleachers as she pulled out her lucky pink whistle and placed it on her cherry red lips and blew as hard as she could and the sound of the whistle echoed through the gym. All the girls quickly turned their focus to Audrey as they all rushed towards her and wanting to hear what she is going to say.
Audrey tried to keep her cool as she smiled, though she almost felt like she was about to be trampled on but the girls managed to keep their distance. “So ladies, welcome to cheerleader try-outs. After the tragic loss of Madeline, we had to schedule a quick try-outs to fill her spot. But we won’t be picking only one girl, we will be picking two. She will also be considered a cheerleader, but she will be an alternate” Audrey said, which was a wise idea now that she thought about it. Just incase one cheerleader was sick, or injured or well in this case, dead. “So I hope you all brought you’re A-Game, and your spirit!” She said in her energetic and joyful voice. “But before we start, any questions ladies?” Audrey wondered as all the girls were eagerly raising their hands wanting to know as much as they could.
