Being the new kid had to be the worst thing in the world. Holden felt like there was a sign above his head or an arrow pointed at him that said newbie he thought to himself as he was pushed into a locker. So far his day had been shit. He's pretty sure his first period teacher hates him for being late on the first day when he was registering for class, something he clearly had no power over. Though he's now expected to catch up yesterday's homework and today's. Jocks keep messing with him and now it looks like he stumbled upon the wrong one.
Bumping into someone, he would have said sorry, he wasn't raised in a barn. Someone bumping into him? What was he apologizing for! Holden tried walking away, it got him pressed up against a locker. He looked over the guy who bumped him, he was taller and larger than him. To put it simply this guy belonged in a zoo. "That all you got?" he furrowed a brow as the jock's buddies jeered at him. Why'd he open his mouth, he'll never know. The jock's fist collided with his stomach as he doubled over and clutched his stomach. He groaned as he stood up straight.
"C'mon, I know two year olds who hit harder than that." he hissed before another fist hit his stomach this one knocking him down to the floor clutching his side. He groaned again as he rolled in pain. "Okay, okay, you can apologize for being the big oaf who bumped into me. I forgive you." he spat out as he was on all fours before being kicked in the side. He could've taken this guy but his brother told him to "be good". Did being good mean he had to take this ass kicking, though? He lied there on the floor breathing heavily before getting kicked in the side again. There was only but so much he could take.

Parking his car, he pulled out his bag and closed the door behind him, placing the aviators over his eyes as he glanced around at the school he was about to enter. It definantly wasn't Miami, but givers can't be takers, right? He begun walking foward, hoping to escape the many estranged stares he was recieving. "Hey! Your the new kid right? Nice car, where did you come from? Was it nice there?" Ayden stopped, glancing over at the girl, probably about his age, raising an eyebrow softly. "Way too many questions to bombard me with at once, girl." He paused for a moment, revisting each of her questions in his head. "Okay, first. Hey, I'm Ayden. And yeah, I'm new around here, small town, huh? Secondly, from Miami, it was great there, didn't get pestered by miss 'one thousand questions' before I even walk through those gates. And yeah, Holden Astra, its alright. As long as you continue just looking and don't touch, s'all good. I'll see ya around?" He smiled softly before continuing to walk, leaving the girl confused as she watched him walk off, glancing at his car, then returning a gaze towards him.
Now inside the halls, he looked around. For a smaller school, he sure was lost already. He sighed. He could've sworn he was given a map at some point...Oh right, he left it at home on the table after cleaning up the empty cans of beer his father decided to suprise him with in the morning. Lovely guy, he was. Just wish he would clean up after himself at some point. He wasn't asking him to dust the bookcase, which they didn't own, or scrub out the oven. He was just asking for some common curtesy, that his bad forced him to acquire his entire life. But enough of that...Lost map, check. Finding his way around this school? Yet to be checked off. Maybe someone could help him out, like that girl he so rudely shut off. Dammit, she could've been helpful. Though there was that whole annoying voice and further questions thing. Nah, he was better off losing her.
That was when he heard some rumblings, and he didn't need a map to find out where this was coming from. He moved foward, shuffling curiously through the crowds of people. He then saw a boy getting beat up by a clearly bigger guy. He sighed. Dammit. In any other case, he would've laughed and walked off and not become involved. But, there was the whole 'slayer thing' which did cloud his mind and made him do good things constantly. Dammit, first day of school and he was already going to be known as the person who meddles. Hopefully thats a good thing? He moved foward, touching the bigger man on the shoulder, turning him towards him. "Hey! Want to lay off him? Or pick on someone who would put you laying on the floor?" He heard some jeers and 'oooh's' emenating from the crowd of people herding around. The guy smirked, turning completely towards him. "Heh. Well aren't you the tough guy? What are you doing to do? I don't think you are going to do anything." Ayden smirked softly , and the guy went to shove him, but Ayden grabbed him first and shoved him into the lockers, hearing gasps from people nearby. "I think you have a problem hearing. I said lay off of him." He took his grip off of the boy, and watched as he walked away, angry. The crowd slowly died down after that, leading him to look towards the boy on the ground. "You okay dude?"

Holden laid there expecting another kick to the side when someone decided to break everything up. He coughed and tried to catch his breath as he managed to get his footing by himself before proceeding to pick up his bag. When he got up off the floor the crowd had disappeared and went to class. High school was high school, no matter where you went he thought to himself as he looked over to the guy who broke up his little squabble.
"You okay, dude?"
That was something Holden had to think about. He looked at the brown haired kid and argued internally with himself. You have no friends and this kid willingly broke up your fight...but now everyone probably thinks you need others to fight your battles. Was he okay? he thought. He brushed himself off before looking the guy in the eye again. "I guess I should thank you..." he paused and looked at the ground and back to Ayden. "So...Thanks for helping me when it clearly wasn't needed. I had it under control." he nodded and began walking down the hallway.
He stopped walking and turned back towards the guy down the hall. "Classes are canceled for the rest of the day. Just thought you should know. There's a pep rally, I'm just going to ditch. Not feeling very peppy at the moment." he let out a deep breath before heading to the parking lot. Where exactly was he going? He didn't know. He didn't have a car. He scanned the parking lot watching others head to their cars to leave.
He sat his book bag on a the ground and clutched his side. Maybe he was too harsh on the kid, he did just save his ass. ...Nope, he should've just minded his own business. Yep, that's what he should've done. He deserved it.

He chuckled softly at the boy's comment. "I don't know which fight you were watching, but if by 'under control' you mean getting mauled by some bully, then each to their own. Next time I just won't interfere." He couldn't understand the lack of grattitude from this boy. Sure, it was understandable that the boy was embarrassed and wanted to fight his own battles. But it was pretty clear that the boy was getting his ass handed to him, and he wasn't going to sit by and let him get bullied like that just so that his macho ego remains in tact, while his body doesn't. He thought he was just doing the right thing not only by this boy but himself as well. Whenever he was in a situation like these, he usually just thought about what his sister would do, and she would've probably beat the crap out of this guy right then and there, but he didn't want to do that and give himself a worse reputation today on only his first day of school at Midnight Harbour.
He looked on in suprise as the boy begun to walk off, no goodye, or anything. It was fair enough, they weren't friends or anything. Heck, they didn't even know eachother at all. But walking off like that, he just wasn't the type to just let it go like that. The guy turned, and informed him of cancelled classes. Heh, and here he was trying to find a map for a class which wasn't even running! Typical Ayden, always delayed in that retrospect. "Thanks.." he responded cooly as he looked on at the boy as he walked off. He could notice that the boy was still feeling the effects of the assault, so decided to follow him. Why not? He didn't have any class anymore, so he was free and pretty much bored for the rest of the day.
He followed after the young man into the parking lot, catching up to him with a brief jog, showing slight concern. "Hey, why don't you stop being so macho for just a moment and relax. Its pretty obvious from a mile away that your in pain. Let me take you to the medic or something. ...You'll just have to show me the way, as I barely found my way into this hallway." He shrugged softly, staring at the boy, hoping he would take him up on his offer for that. [/size]

Holden stared into the lot as he rolled his eyes at the sound of footsteps. What did this kid want? If he wanted to fight, he wasn't going to sit here and just get beat up by the entire school. This was just getting outrageous. Macho? This had nothing to do with being macho...Okay, maybe it did, but he didn't need to know that.
"That has nothing to do with it." he interrupted the boy quickly still looking dead ahead. He was intent on making sure he was okay. Why? "Is this some self satisfaction thing? You did your good deed for the day. I'm fine." he said as he turned to him and looked him in the eyes. "I don't know where the nurse is, that and I don't want my brother finding out. Plus, I'm stronger than I look." he nodded to him. His brother was a counselor at the school, of course they'd ask where his guardian was and Liam was that.
"And thank you..." he scratched his head and looked down at the ground. He didn't recall actually thanking him. "Though, you save my ass again, I'll beat your ass for doing so." he stared him down before chuckling.

The young man said it had nothing to do with it, but his reactions were proving otherwise. He wasn't trying to be an asshole with this guy, he just didn't like seeing people getting bullied and not being able to stand up for themselves against pricks. He was once one of those pricks, but luckily it was his sister who kept him in check. And with her gone, there was no one to keep him in check, except the fact that he was the 'big bad vampire slayer', which didn't necessarily mean he needed to be all goody too shoes, but did put things into perspective. Maybe he shouldn't have even bothered with this kid; it was pretty clear that he didn't appreciate the help and would've preferred to ge the hell beaten out of him for the sake of retaining some self-dignity. If that was even possible to do in such a situation. The problem with Ayden was that in a situation like what just transpired, he was too used to the supernatural situation of rescuing someone helpless from a preying vampire. It was the same situation when you really think about it. Except for the whole rising from the grave and wanting to suck your blood thing. Though he wouldn't put it past that guy.
He smirked softly as the young man went on. "Yeah, something like that. Helping the helpless just makes me sleep at night," he sarchastically commented, the smirk still plastered on his expression. It wasn't that he didn't want to 'help the helpless,' it was just that it was a burden for him, and something he was still trying to escape. If he didn't have this destiny, he probably wouldn't have even bothered to save this boy because it wasn't worth the trouble. But because he was all 'spiderman' and stuff, he couldn't help himself. Maybe he just couldn't stay out of fights, like his father had mentioned to him, before downing his fourth glass of straight scotch. His father may not have remembered the lecture that night, but he sure did. And it stuck in his mind ever since. It wasn't like he just got himself into fights, they found a way of getting in his way. It sounded lame, but it was true. Maybe it was just some new sense that he had and characteristic of being a slayer. He did enjoy the thrill of a fight, and beating that guy up was pretty funny. It would have been good to throttle him a bit more though.
He nodded softly as the young man went on. "Okay, no telling brother, done. I've got my fair share of people I'd prefer not knowing about this, too. I guess we both have things at stake, here?" He tried to find some common ground with this boy and try and relate to him more, hopefully have the boy to open up with him a bit and stop being so passive aggressive before he felt the need to throttle him as well. "And you may very well be stronger than you look. But those broises on your face, and you getting basically bitch-slapped by that guy isn't really proving your case. Sorry." He sighed softly. Maybe he was a bit harsh and was just going to get into another fight, but he said what he thought and he hoped this boy would at least understand where he was coming from.
He frowned softly as the boy went on, the macho-ism reappearing in full force. He would like to see this dude try and do the things he said, but he wasn't going to get into that with him, this guy wasn't his enemy. "I'll take that as a 'thank you Ayden' you are so awesome..." kind of gesture, huh? Look, I don't know what that whole deal with you two was about, but I know people like that, and they'll come back at you again. And it may just be me, but I'd at least enjoy seeing that guy walking away with something to remember you by. And not your blood on his fists, either." He walked foward again, standing in front of the boy, putting his arms out. "You can hit me if you want, I'll let you have one shot in and one only. But I'm not trying to fight you, I'm just trying to help you. Why? I have no friggan idea, I don't even know you man. But you seem like the good type around here, you know what I'm saying?" He wanted real friends, not the fake type. He was curious what this boy felt about this.

Holden furrowed his brow and watched his every move. This kid was a weird one, not only had he been rude to him and been a flat out jerk after he saved him from that fight he was still standing here trying to carry on a conversation with him. He was thinking either this kid was desperate or he had some serious psychological issues. He scanned the parking lot avoiding eye contact as much as possible. Wait, was he just insulted in the past two minutes?
"Ayden, is it?" he paused and stepped closer to him and looked him in the eyes. "I've said thank you but that awesome part just won't be happening" he shook his head. At this point he would have rather just go to the nurse and risk his brother finding out about his little tiff with the school's giant. "And as much fun as that sounds, I'm not going to hit you. Even if I did get bitch slapped and if I'm 'helpless'." he hissed at Ayden.
"Besides, that just makes me as bad as he is." he shrugged stepping back away from Ayden. "And help me? What makes you think I need help? If I wanted to hit you I would've a long time ago. Way to make me sound like some weak damsel in distress..." he scowled before picking up his back and walking away. He didn't have to sit here and listen to him talk. Nope...Not at all.

He shrugged softly as the young man declined referring to him as 'awesome.' It was okay, he supposed. It wasn't like the guy knew him or anything. This guy was still too busy brooding over his masculinity, or something along those lines to notice anything else. It was strange, this guy didn't appear like the type to get bullied, unless he had just become so out of sync at who were the cool people and the uncool people. Maybe he hadn't lost it, maybe it was just this town was entirely different than what he was used to. Basically in Miami, if you were good looking, you automatically became popular. If you had money, that also applied, but people with better looks always stood out more than who had the dollars behind them. He wasn't judging this dude or anything, but he wasn't bad looking or anything, so it made him slightly curious. Not enough to care entirely, but enough to wonder how he was going to fare in this school, especially after everyone hears about this recent incident. He knew how fast gossip travels around schools, especially for small schools like this where he was labelled 'the new guy.'
Smirking at the boy's comment, he scratched the back of his hand, slightly relieved that he hadn't accepted his challenge. The broise from the punch, he could handle, he had taken a lot worse over the last year or so. But avoiding a confrontation or a fight altogether was his priority. Not that he didn't enjoy a fight, but beating up 'helpless' students wasn't nearly as thrilling as beating up vampires. And there was the whole getting into trouble thing, he didn't need anymore of that for his father to chastise him about.
He looked on at the boy as he spoke. "And if you wanted to hit big bubba, you probably would have hit him as well. But you didn't. You don't strike me as the type who can't defend themselves." He shrugged again, just giving his overall impressions of the boy and the situation. "And I'm not here to help you or bail you out of fights, I'm just here to fit in. You know, new town and all. The choice was big bubba or you, and something tells me big bubba isn't the most reasonable guy to talk to. Seems like you need a friend, and well, seeing as I'm a little short on friends, I suppose I do too." He chuckled softly as the boy walked away. He walked outside, following the boy and then walking past him, turning back for a moment's glance. "Seeing as there are no classes, I'm going to go get a bite. Your welcome to get a lift if you want, but whatever." He turned and then walked towards his car, ready to just drive off. What a fulfilling first day at Midnight Harbour High...

Holden stood there watching him walk away, fighting internally with himself about following the guy to his car. There were so much going through his head, this guy wanted to be friends with him. Maybe he was pretty desperate. Holden slowly dragged his feet before following the guy to his car. "My parents warned me about getting in cars with strangers..." he smiled. I mean technically, Ayden was a stranger who strangely wanted to be his friend and he wasn't in any position to argue.
He got in the passenger side of the car and buckled his seat belt and looked directly out the windshield trying to make as little eye contact possible with Ayden. "Name's Holden by the way." he stared dead on. "Maybe I do need a friend, I'm new too." he glanced over to Ayden. "But I do know of this great burger place nearby. My brother and I ate there last week, it's pretty awesome. If you're looking for some place to eat, but whatever." he shrugged and chuckled making it obvious he was making fun of Ayden.

He smirked softly at the boy's comment as he opened his car, turning towards him. "My father told me not to get into any trouble. Do you think I listen?" He chuckled before getting inside the car and starting the ignition, letting it rev up for a moment as he waited for the boy to get in. He glanced over at him, the smirk still on his face. "Besides, would I really go all to the trouble of bailing you out of a fight and all that, just to get you into my car? In case you didn't notice, I own an astra not a white van." He chuckled again, before reversing out as he introduced himself. "Good to meet you Holden," he added before listening to Holden explain his status in this school as well. Well, at least he wasn't the only new guy around here, definantly made him feel better. Though, if he had arrived a moment earlier, it might have been him who...Was beating the crap about of big bubba and getting suspended already. Now that would be a record, even for him.
He nodded in approval of the burger idea. "Honestly, I'm that starving that if you told me there was a seafood place nearby, I'd be satisfied. And I don't even eat seafood." He drove to the place Holden was referring to, and parked the car, before turning to Holden as he unbuckled his seatbelt. "These burgers better be good, or you'll get another one of those pimp slaps that big bubba gave you. Just kidding." He got out of the car and looked around, more specifically at the burger place. It looked appealing, he was actually looking foward to pigging out on burgers and fries. Oh, and potentially make a friend. The burgers were coming first though.

"Maybe that's because you are the trouble" he nodded and glanced at him every now and then. "I don't know your life. Maybe you did plan on getting me in a white van, you could be driving me there as we speak. Well, that was up until I mentioned food." he smiled as he stared out the window. This guy wasn't too bad when he wasn't bashing him or calling him out.
As they neared the restaurant he didn't say too much of anything. He unbuckled his seat belt after Ayden parked the car, "Hey, they are good and I don't remember offering to be your hooker." he smiled as he exited the car. He led the way into the restaurant which was rather empty than the time he ate here with Liam. "Two, please." he smiled to the hostess as she guided them to a booth.
"You two are adorable together." the hostess said as she placed menus on the table.
Holden's eyes nearly popped out of his head as he sat down in the booth. "Oh, um...We're not..." he shook his head rather fast and looked over to Ayden. "We're friends...I guess." he nodded and looked back at the hostess, blushing a bit from embarrassment. The hostess walked away to take her place back at her post. "That was awkward..." he abruptly grabbed the menu to find something to eat and hide his face at the same time.

He shrugged towards Holden. "Trouble, schumble. I am an innocent party in all of this." He smirked softly, before going on. "Hey, I can't kidnap anyone on an empty stomach." Then soon pulled up he chuckled at Holden's comment. "If you were skinny, had boobs and curvy brunette hair, you might fit the bill. That other guy might be able to use your services, though. Just punch him in the jaw for me, first. Would like seeing that." They soon walked inside and were assigned a table by the hostess. Her comment made him gulp in slightly, and he looked awkwardly over at Holden before he looked back at the waitress. He was about to speak, but thankfully Holden made the save and explained it to her. Well, the people around here were even more foward than he had expected.
He glanced back at Holden at his comment and watched him hide his face behind the menu, before sighing softly. "Your telling me. Here I was thinking I had a shot with her, too. That momentum just died..." Oh well, there were plenty of other chickie babes in the sea. What made her think they were 'cute together' anyway? Aren't two guy friends allowed to go out and get burgers together? He begun reading the menu, scanning the different burger options available as he prayed that they recieved a different waitress to remove anymore awkward encounters. "No more talk of pimping from me..." he commented softly as he looked up to see the same waitress was there, with her perky smile. "Were you guys ready to order?" He coughed softly, scanning the menu for a brief moment before looking up. "His been here before, I'll leave it up to whatever he recommends." He saw the smile on the waitress' face and looked down at the menu again. "Beef burger, with beetroot and the lot..." He stated almost instinctively, just to avoid anymore witty comments from the girl. Ah, he just wanted to eat the burger and leave in dignity now...Whatever dignity he had left.

Really? He kinda pegged Ayden for blondes, hm...He sat there silently from then on, just scanning the menu. "I'll have a turkey burger." he set his menu down, looking at the waitress. "Thanks." he nodded to her and took a sip of his glass of water while looking around the restaurant. Or what was there to look at, anything to avoid contact. He watch the waitress leave to place their order and looked down at his watch.
"I-" he opened his mouth to say something but quickly shut it and looked away. Time couldn't go by any slower, he was embarrassed and was just ready to go home and pretend that this day didn't happen. Tomorrow was a new day and Ayden could start new and pretend he didn't know him, if he wanted. Right now, he guessed they both felt like crawling in a hole and dying. Ayden wasn't bad looking at all. Holden knew that Ayden was obviously straight. Holden reached for his glass again and took another sip of water placing it down. He wasn't entirely sure where he stood himself. He quickly shook these thoughts as their food was placed in front of them.
He smiled to the waitress and began eating his food, squirting ketchup onto his plate and dipping his fries in them. He didn't know what to say, everything was just so awkward as he chewed his food in silence, managing to get through half his plate before feeling full. Next time, try not to fill up on water to fill the awkward silence he thought to himself as he flagged the waitress down for a takeout tray and the check. Holden began putting his food in the tray before noticing she had only brought one check back with her to the table. He dusted off his hands and grabbed the check before Ayden could.

Turkey burger sounded good. Heck, anything with 'burger' in the title sounded amazing, really. He was starving, he had rushed himself to school today which inevitably resulted in him skipping breakfast. Classes being cancelled was probably the only saving grave of that, as he wouldn't have to worry about paying attention or focusing during class, especially listening to boring teachers rattle on like they all enjoyed doing. It was good to just be able to kick back and relax when he was supposed to have school. Could he even call breaking up a fight ten minutes upon arrival as his first day of school? He always considered his first day of school involving the awkward introductions from teachers, loads of homework assigned and annoying people pestering him. Well, he had the annoying person, and luckily he knew to ditch her quickly.
He noticed Holden go to to speak but restrain himself, and Ayden looked back down at the table, not really sure what to say. It was an awkward situation, and not because these two didn't have anything in common or anything, it was just obvious that the recent encounter with the waitress created this awkward tension between them. If they were good buddies or something, they could have easily brushed it off. But because they had just met, it made it even the more awkward.
He finished demolishing his plate, before looking up as the bill was put on the table, and Holden quickly grabbed it. "Hey, I'll get this. I owe you, you know, informing me that there were no classes before I spent half the day finding the classroom. And showing me a pretty cool burger joint in this town." He smiled reassuringly, before leaning back in the chair softly and putting a note on the table where the bill was situated to cover it. "Hey, I didn't even think to ask, what subjects are you doing? We might be in some of the same classes, or something. Would be good to know someone and not have to flick your pencil off the table to meet someone." He joked softly, though he usually wouldn't resort to those means as he would just be the ice breaker. Though, he hadn't really been put into this situation before, as he was popular at Miami High and it had just gone from there.

That's exactly what he didn't want to happen. It wasn't that anyone owed anyone it just made their current situation worse but he released the bill and leaned back into his chair. "Thanks" he gave a half smile to Ayden, actually looking at him for the first time in a while. He grabbed his glass and took another sip. God, this was painfully awkward. He didn't know what exactly to say. He didn't want to make things even more worse. 'Thanks' were the only words he could managed to get out in the past twenty minutes or so.
He coughed as he nearly choked on the piece of ice he had in his mouth when Ayden asked him about his classes. "I'm taking the basics." he nodded, "You know, math, english, science, p.e., that kind of stuff." he shrugged. He pretended not to be excited about some of the classes he had. He actually didn't mind school, it was more entertaining than anything. Though he did dread the early mornings. He just had to remember not to make himself look like a total dork. "Wait..." he placed his glass down and leaned forward a bit to make sure Ayden was able to hear what he was about to say. "You mean you actually want to hang out and be friends after this being mistaken for a date?" he furrowed his brows at him. Maybe he was crazier than he thought.
He never really had a friend before, well, one that didn't use him as a walking calculator or dictionary like the ones in previous schools had. It was weird but he liked it. He scratched his and looked at the time. "I better get going...I promised my brother I'd be home soon, unless you want to come with? I mean I understand if you don't...I'm sorta new to this friend thing. I never had a friend before..." he realized he was rambling and then trailed off. "Sorry for the monologue." he looked down at his glass and played with his straw.
